I am a self taught artist
who has been doing what she loves since 1984. |
|
My love of antique toys is
translated into each bear or animal that I create. Drawing from a vast
collection of antique children's clothing, old buttons, trims and
miscellany, each piece evolves slowly around a theme that is usually
centered on some piece of antiquity. This gives each finished piece a
look that is unique and original. |

Thanks to all of you who have followed Murphy Bears through
the years. It is only through your support that we can continue to do what we
love to do. |

|
Bears and other Mohair Animals |
 |
|
Each furry friend is created
from 100% English or German mohair |
|
I love color and because of
this, you will often find me standing over a pot of "brew", dying
up special colors that have become unique to Murphy Bears. |
|
Glass eyes are normally used,
but I still have bins of antique shoe buttons that I use and will be
noted in the description. |
|
100% wool felt is normally
used for the pads but leather is also used and will be noted in the
description. |
|
Each bear's head arms and legs are
jointed with cotter pins and fender washers-the traditional way is fully
jointed |
|
All bears are stuffed with
excelsior (wood shavings) and pellets for added weight - this gives each
bear a traditional time worn comfortable feel. |
|
These bears are not designed for
children under 5 years of age due to eyes and other small accessories |
